Admission Criteria

Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services is a Children’s Residential Facility and will provide care 24 hours per day 365 days a year. Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services serve at risk males between the ages of 12- 21 years old that have a mental health diagnosis and/or a history of emotional and behavioral problems. Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services will serve youth over the age of 18 years old only if they are enrolled in school. Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services will accept referrals from the  following sources: Department of Social Services, Community Service Boards, Public and Private Hospitals, Department of Juvenile Justice, Mental Health Agencies, and Parents. Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services will respond to the needs of the young men and encourage positive self-esteem.

  • Behavioral/Conduct disorder 
    • Hyperactive
    • Physical Aggression 
    • Verbal Aggression
    • Object Aggression
    • Difficulty with Relationships
    • Poor Self Care/Hygiene
    • Poor Judgment
    • Restless Behavior
    • Stealing 
    • Mood Swings
    • Depression
  • Delinquent/Court Involvement 
  • Family Related needs 
  • Incarcerated Parent(s)
  • Learning Disability 
  • Poor Academic Performance
  • Physical/Emotional Abuse/Neglect History of Substance Abuse – not actively addicted to drugs
  • Runaway: We offer a range of services to our residents, including daily living assistance, recreational activities, and transportation to appointments.

Exclusionary Criteria

  • Autism Disorder
  • Mental Retardation – IQ 65 or below
  • Actively Addicted or Dependent in Illegal Substances 
  • Self-abusive/Suicidal Behavior History of intentionally starting fires with the determined intent to cause harm or significant property damage
  • Sexual Behavior other than aggressive or predatory (will interview on a case-by-case basis). 
  • Sex Offender – as adjudicated by the court
  • Actively psychotic, suicidal, or homicidal
  • Convicted of violent crimes that would pose a risk to residents, self, or others
