Objective

Objective

Objective

The objective of the program is to offer at-risk adolescents a safe, therapeutic, home-like environment where they may adequately work through the issues of emotional/psychological distress, behavioral disorders, delinquency, dysfunctional family relations and educational achievement/advancement using counseling methods.

Our Philosophy

The philosophy of Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services is based on the belief that each resident should have a nurturing home environment that provides basic necessities and essential skills to enable them to become self-sufficient individual and overcome barriers and challenges faced in society. It is also our belief that in order to be successful, these individuals must possess the necessary tools to help them interact with others and effectively cope with life’s challenges. Services will be driven by best practices which include psycho-educational services, therapeutic interventions, case management, medication education, and outpatient and/or family therapy. These are proven modalities to use when dealing with children and adolescents who exhibit behavioral, emotional, and social deficits. As with all services offered by the agency, the intent is to offer services that will allow the resident the techniques and strategies to use in a home environment as well as within the community. In addition, Safe Haven Transitional Youth Services will serve to improve the quality of our residents’ lives based on individual strengths, needs, and abilities.

Our program will mainly focus on behavioral management as it relates to adjusting inappropriate behaviors and the provision of counseling services designed to address prior abuses, neglect and/or present disorders that fuel improper behavior. The behavioral management program will be designed to encourage residents to rise above their circumstances, realize their strengths and demonstrate that they can practice success within the context of increasing empowerment and positive reinforcement.

We will create an environment and culture that fosters and encourages the teens to make independent choices and take responsibility for their behavior. The system will be set up so that residents will be provided with frequent and regular opportunities to receive feedback regarding their performance. The feedback will focus on, and amplify, the small steps that the residents make an effort to pass their current level of behavior. Since small changes often trigger further changes, it is important for the resident to notice and appreciate any changes that qualify as success in achieving their goals. Again, the idea is “It is not the size of the step a person takes, but rather the direction”!
